Please see information below regarding data management expectations and
consult your supervisors if you are not sure what is expected regarding
your project.

Dear All,

As you are aware, certain funders (including UKRI) require research data
to be made openly available where possible. I encourage everyone to
deposit their research datasets on Pure and respond to any reminder
emails from RKES colleagues with relevant queries, or to information
about why data hasn't been deposited. Thanks.

More info.....

Completed research data should be offered for deposit in the
University’s Institutional data repository, within Pure, unless there is
a contractual agreement that states otherwise. By depositing data in
Pure, researchers can help to ensure compliance with funder
data requirements because the data are retained for a minimum period of
10-years, are subject to preservation activity, and are assigned a
persistent link (i.e. DOI) to aid citations and data discoverability.

Researchdata can be deposited/archived in UoS Pure and, if the data is
not confidential, disseminated via KnowledgeBase – the public portal of
Pure. Conversely, data that needs to remain confidential can still be
archived in Pure, but in a ‘locked-down’ format – meaning it will not go
out on KnowledgeBase but will still be subject to preservation &
curation activity, in line with funder expectations.

Each funder has slightly varying data requirements. EPSRC have a number
of expectations that grant holders (including PGR students) must comply
with, this includes arranging for the

  * Preservation & curation of research data for a minimum period of 10
    years;
  * Creation & publication/dissemination of metadata – to facilitate the
    discovery of research;
  * Inclusion of data (access) statements in published papers; and
  * Opening/sharing of (completed) data (unless subject to IPR,
    commercialisation, etc.).

If you require any advice with the data deposit process, RDMS
colleagues, Alan Morrison (alan.morrison at strath.ac.uk) & Alan Slevin
(alan.slevin at strath.ac.uk) of the University Library can help.

General research data management enquiries can be sent to
researchdataproject at strath.ac.uk.
