Use your knowledge to support a student
[https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/v3files/shard1/85313/ab/851522460249024bf0bd27.png]The Widening Access team is currently recruiting staff volunteers to mentor incoming care-experienced students, and a small number of student asylum seekers for the September 2023 intake.
We welcome staff who can use their Strathclyde knowledge to mentor a student throughout their degree.
Staff will use their own time, or working hours as agreed with their line manager, with mentor meetings usually taking place fortnightly.
Mentoring will take place in person on University campus and/or remotely as suits both mentor and student.

Recent research by the Priory Group<https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/cvg4pnmkid/1f2iyhlko2yw5sb93d38j4/external?email=true&a=5&p=63273904&t=31139365> highlighted that over 40% of men have never spoken to anyone about their mental health, citing embarrassment and fear of stigma as the main reasons for keeping quiet.

The first meeting of the Group will take place in September
[https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/v3files/shard1/85313/a6/9554d6af7d92aa99e27c02.jpg]Between 2020-2022, the University’s Race Equality Working Group led a programme of sector scoping, consultation with staff and students, and analysis of internal and external ethnicity data.
The Working Group produced a report and recommendations, and these were endorsed by the Principal and the Executive Team in March 2023.
The University is now establishing a permanent Racial Equity and Anti-Racism Steering Group (REARSG), which will initially meet three times per year and report directly to the University’s central EDI Committee.

Facility will be country's first
The National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) will help to deliver Scotland’s first energy incubator and scale-up hub (EISH) in Aberdeen’s Energy Transition Zone.
NMIS, which is operated by the University of Strathclyde, is linking up with ETZ Ltd, the not-for-profit company tasked with spearheading North East Scotland’s energy transition ambition, the Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC), and founding partners bp and Scottish Enterprise, to create a £6.5 million 3,000sqm facility to support supply chain expansion and deliver a ‘cutting-edge innovation ecosystem’.

Professor McArthur is an internationally-recognised research leader and expert in artificial intelligence (AI) and intelligent systems for energy applications, who has been working with AI systems for more than 30 years. In his career, he has delivered more than £60 million of collaborative industrial research and innovation programmes.
