Dear All,

I hope you are well.

I will be running the S-Lab PhD credit course on Tue 27th Feb 2-4.

I would be grateful if you could pass the information on to your PhD students and ask them to contact me if they would like to participate.

Many thanks for your help

Ruby

Subject: PGR course on sustainability

Hi Christine & Gordon,

Christine - as I mentioned at the recent PGR faculty committee, that along with Ruby (also cc’ed in), we were looking to resurrect the PGR sustainability course that encouraged students to consider their research environment. Ruby is keen also to expand this across more depts and I have also cc’ed in Gordon as well to see this would be of interest to physics students as well?

I have attached a draft of the course descriptor which you would be free to adapt for your own depts or keep it generic. This would be worth 2 credits initially and falls within Domain C of the PGCredits which is helpful.

Ideally, Ruby could present the initial lecture to a larger group and then depending on uptake split up the following workshop into depts or more manageable groups, though I do like the idea of this being developed into a PGR course where there is the scope for some cross dept overlap. However, Ruby is happy to work with whatever is best for each dept.

We also have a couple of other chemistry staff involved in sustainability initiatives and I intend to invite them along to the workshop to see if there are some opportunities that emerge to help explore further.

Currently looking to schedule the initial information lecture at some point in mid-April or so with the subsequent workshop perhaps towards the end of May but these are not fixed quite yet.

Thus, if you think you would like to progress this further for your own dept then please let myself and Ruby know and look to move forward from there.

Thanks,

Alastair
