Last week (22 March) six outstanding Strathclyde graduates were recognised at the seventh Strathclyde Executive Leadership Awards (STELAR) Ceremony.
Now in their sixth year, the Awards, established by Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Jim McDonald, celebrate excellence in leadership across our global alumni community, and awardees come from a diverse range of professions.

Race Equality at Strathclyde

The Race Equality Steering Group<https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/cvg4pnmkid/630t0yqc3zdw5sb93d38j4/external?email=true&a=5&p=64180296&t=31139365> oversees work towards an inclusive, welcoming and equitable working and learning environment for Black, Asian and minority ethnic students and staff at Strathclyde.

Changes being made to the student record system

The Anniversary Registration project has been running for a number of years and is making changes to the student record systems that will allow PGT students whose programme of study doesn’t start at the traditional August/September start point to register at the start of their studies, and not have to re-register at the traditional academic year at a point in their studies that is often not appropriate for them.
This will mostly impact January start PGT programmes.

This year the ceremony is being held on Thursday 18 May so please save the date.

New Neurodiversity Working Group established

[People at desk]A working group on neurodiversity has been established, convened by Professor Douglas Brodie, Associate Principal (Social Inclusion).
The remit of the group is to ensure that the University has appropriate policies and processes in place to address the needs of neurodiverse (including autistic) staff and students.
The membership of the group includes those with lived experience.

Strathclyde's Engineering Faculty recently welcomed S1/2 pupils from 15 local schools to The Assembly Hall of the Royal College Building, to showcase their sustainable design concepts.

For the project “Challenging Justice Inequalities with Children in Conflict with the Law”

The Children and Young People’s Centre for Justice’s Research Lead, Dr Nina Vaswani and co-investigators Professor Yvette Taylor (Education) and Dr Michelle Donnelly (Law) have been awarded a prestigious Nuffield Foundation Research Grant for the project “Challenging Justice Inequalities with Children in Conflict with the Law”.
The project will also benefit from inputs from Dr Robert Porter (CELCIS) and from a group of 10 interdisciplinary academics, policymakers and practitioners.

A potentially lifesaving model for identifying maternal risk in pregnant women with pre-eclampsia has been developed by researchers.
More than 8,800 women in 11 countries took part in the study which accurately classified women’s risk of adverse outcomes of the blood pressure condition in five categories, ranging from very low to very high, within two days of their first assessment.
