Subject: [OpticsDivisionSeminars] Optics Division Seminar: Dr Tom Cutler, Monday 2pm 10th March, T&L 325

Dear all,

I’m very pleased to announce that we will be visited by Dr. Thomas Cutler on Monday 10th March and he will give an Optics Division Seminar:

Atom-light interaction: from hot to cold, to computing? - Dr Tom Cutler

Since completing my PhD in the Quantum Light and Matter group at Durham University, I've spent the last two years pursuing an industry career developing emerging quantum technologies using cold atoms. In this talk I'd like to give an insight into the world of quantum from the industry perspective, and talk about my experience designing and building quantum memory and quantum computer systems. I'll also touch on my experiences of industry vs academia from a careers perspective.

The seminar will be 2-3pm in Teaching & Learning TL325 (49 Richmond Street).

Looking forward to seeing you there! I expect that Tom’s talk will be of particular interest to PhD students and ECRs, so please feel free to pass these details on to interested colleagues.

Best wishes,

Stuart
