Special Leave Policy replaced by eight new policies

As with our other people policies, we've adopted a more conversational tone and removed jargon, making each policy easier to read and understand and, in many cases, we’ve also developed additional guidance or FAQs to help you understand how these policies work in practice.

[Caring for an elderly person]At Strathclyde we know that a number of our colleagues are amongst the estimated 830,000 unpaid carers in Scotland.
As a socially progressive employer, we recognise the importance of providing support to these staff members to allow them to effectively balance their work with the responsibility of being a carer for family members or friends. We have a range of support mechanisms designed to benefit carers at at the University including our paid carers leave and our Carers Network.
If you meet our definition of a carer, it is important that you take the necessary steps to identify yourself as such, to be able to access these opportunities for support.

Sex workers should be empowered to set boundaries, access justice, and receive specialist support, according to a new study examining sexual violence in the sex industry across four legal jurisdictions.
The recommendations were made by sex workers involved in the study which found that those working in decriminalised or legalised settings – such as New Zealand and Nevada’s managed brothels – are better able to negotiate consent and seek support when violations occur.

[decolonising the curriculum]Our next set of “Decolonising the Curriculum” (DtC) workshops will focus on the process of establishing a Community of Practice, and showcase the range of work already taking place within Strathclyde (specifically from the Faculties of Science, HaSS and SBS). We will learn about the Strath Union led 'Strath Decolonial Academy'.
These sessions will explore how staff and students can collaborate, share best practices, and support one another in embedding decolonial and anti-racist approaches in their teaching and research.
