Dear all,

As we head into the summer months there are a plethora of opportunities for engaging with various groups, and a number of deadlines for calls fast approaching. If you're wanting to get involved, there are a few big national events coming up to be part of. If you're new to public engagement, why not go along to the events as a spectator to see what your colleagues are up to?

Explorathon 2018
Taking place on the last Friday of September each year, the EU Researcher's night comprises activities in 300 cities across Europe. In Scotland, we have Explorathon. There will be events in Edinburgh, Glasgow, St Andrews and Aberdeen on Friday 28 September and Saturday 29 September.
The Edinburgh area call for expressions of interest is open until 6 July, find out more<https://www.hw.ac.uk/research/engage/case-studies/explorathon-2014.htm>.
For the other areas, keep an eye open for announcements or talk to your university's public engagement team.

IOP Festival of Physics 2018
The Institute of Physics call for ideas for the 2018 Festival of Physics is now open, untilWednesday 11 July. The festival will take place from Friday 26th October – Sunday 28th October inclusive at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh.
The event will be a celebration of the role that physics plays in our world and beyond, with an emphasis on cross-disciplinary content that demonstrates the intersections of science and other forms of culture, and highlights the role of Scottish physicists in the inventions and discoveries that have shaped our lives.
The programme will include an adult event strand alongside teen, family and early years offerings, so the IOP are seeking inspiring and interactive content in the form of workshops, shows, talks, debates, games and art for a range of ages.
This year, the theme of the festival is Time. We would be keen to encourage submissions of content that explores or is related to this theme, although it is not prohibitive.

The call for ideas will run until 4pm Wednesday, 11th July.

Glasgow Science Centre need you!
GSC are looking for experts to be involved in their 2018 series of Science Lates. These are evenings of spectacular science for over 18s. They are looking for experts to inspire visitors to explore the world around them and engage with local research and industry. Each Late has a packed programme based around one theme. Visitors can enjoy explosive science shows, planetarium shows, live demonstrations, interactive workshops and craft activities, as well as live music performances and a silent disco.
They are interested to hear any ideas of what you could contribute for the following dates/themes, from table top activities, demonstrations, short talks, performances and more. The events run from 18.00-22.30, all experts will be provided with a meal voucher.
12th October – Space
Are you involved in innovations in the space industry? An expert in physics or astronomy?
30th November - Noel
Could you communicate the science of the season from the science of snowflakes or even get crafty with a science Christmas decoration?
If you would like to be involved and have any questions, please contact emma.woodham at glasgowsciencecentre.org<mailto:emma.woodham at glasgowsciencecentre.org?subject=Science%20Lates>. If you would like to submit an activity idea, please use the online booking form<http://science-glasgow.polldaddy.com/s/meet-expert-sign-up-form>.

Keep an eye out for the next SUPA newsletter (sign up to the newsletter here<http://eepurl.com/dvKP8H>), which will mention some of the great public engagement activity taking place. If you want to feature in the newsletter, just let us know!

Best wishes
