Dear All,

There are a number of key University Policies that I would like to
highlight as a source of practical guidance in certain situations some
of you may face. They are listed on the University website under various
headings. Notable ones include:
Under finance -
http://www.strath.ac.uk/finance/generalinformation/regulationsandpolicies/
- expenses policy, financial regs., policy for receipt of gifts, etc.
Under HR - http://www.strath.ac.uk/staff/policies/hr/ - guidelines for
home working, sickness absence, public interest disclosure, etc
Under Information Security -
http://www.strath.ac.uk/staff/policies/informationsecurity/ - data
protection policy, encryption policy, etc.
Under General - http://www.strath.ac.uk/staff/policies/general/ -
conflict of interest, fraud prevention

........and then to the email below which discussed revisions of the
Student Discipline Procedure and Guidance on Academic Dishonesty. This
process is ongoing (drafts attached) - if you have comments they need to
be back to me before Weds 29th for passing on to Senate on 12 June.

Regards,

Rob

================================================================

Dear All,

Thank you for your comments and feedback on the revised Student
Discipline Procedure. I have incorporated most of the feedback in the
latest draft discipline procedure attached. The most significant change
from the previous version is that the procedure for appealing against a
decision in relation to a minor offence has changed. These appeals will
be heard by the SDC (as is currently the case) but this will be the
final route of internal appeal (in the current Regulations students
found guilty of minor offences can appeal to the SDC and then to the
SDAB). Because of this change, the structure of Section 8 has changed
slightly and the procedure described there now applies to both the SDC
and SDAB.

In addition the following revisions have been made in response to feedback:

·Removed mention of ‘Student Code of Conduct’. This is now covered
through changes to Para. 1.2 (see below)

·Para 1.2: Removed second sentence and added reference to the general
manner in which students are expected to behave

·Guidance Note on page 6 dealing with timescales for interview of the
student moved to para. 4.5

·Para 4.12 expanded to include DO’s responsibility to determine
reasonable cause and to state that no further action to be taken where
reasonable cause is not established

·Provision added to include damage to property which is on loan to the
University as a disciplinary offence

·Removed the Librarian from the list of Disciplinary Officers but noted
that the Director of IS Services may delegate responsibility to the
Librarian for administering discipline in cases originating within the
Library

Most other changes which have been in response to feedback are largely
cosmetic in nature or intended to clarify points of detail.

The Guidance on Academic Dishonesty largely remains the same, although
there were several useful suggestions on how this could be developed.
Work to develop this further and consolidate other existing academic
dishonesty documents may be taken forward by other colleagues in the future.

If there are any further minor points that need to be addressed then
please let me know as soon as possible and no later than next Wednesday
29 May. After that, aside from such minor modifications, the versions
attached are what will be presented to Senate on 12 June for approval.

Kind regards,

Darren
