Dear Dr Jeffers,

I am emailing you to inquire as to whether there are any opportunities
within your department this summer, be it research related or something
more generic.

I am a 3^rd year student studying Physics and Astronomy at the
University of Glasgow. I am very passionate about both of these subjects
and I am a keen amateur astronomer.

I would love the chance to work in an active research environment and I
believe the experience would be invaluable. I am a keen advocate of
science and the scientific method, I try to convey this through being
one of 26,000 STEM (the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
Network) Ambassadors across the UK and from there have become a
demonstrator for the Astronomy Outreach Program run by Glasgow University.

I also have experience of both hands-on practical and computational
laboratories in both physics and astronomy. I am competent with Matlab
and Linux and have used a Raspberry Pi to control a remote controlled car.

After working in retail from various part time jobs I have had during my
studies giving me real world experience.

Yours Sincerely,

Matthew McGuigan
