[Academic] ADR2014

Dear All,

The Accountability and Development Review cycle is underway for 2014, 
with a different set of dates from previous years (more details in my 
email of 27/1/14). The process needs to be complete for all staff by end 
of June and I'd like people to make as much progress as possible in May 
to ensure completion in June. Details of reviewers will be coming round 
very shortly - if you wish to discuss the allocation please let me know.

The review period is from Jan 2013 to the "initial months of 2014" - I 
suggest 1/1/13 to 30/4/14

Please take some time on the objectives for the coming year - making 
them clear, with numbers/dates where possible and measurable. They do 
not need long text explanations.

I attach material from Faculty of Science presentations, collecting 
together slides giving examples of objectives and development activities 
for different staff categories (Administrative, Technical, IT, 
Academic). Research Staff seem to have been missed but hopefully the 
other categories give some useful guidance. The acronym for objectives 
is "smart" - specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and timely. Note 
that the training sessions encouraged some ambition and boldness - it 
can be better to try and miss an ambitious (but achievable) objective 
than to succeed with an under-stated one.
