Newton Fund - UK-South Africa pre-call announcement
The ESRC and the South African National Research Foundation (NRF) intend to open a call<http://strath.us12.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=e9eb54ce2adf8d15e4903fece&id=7805b8945c&e=ea2f712f58> for collaborative projects between UK and South African researchers addressing topics relating to Higher Education in South Africa and wider sub-Saharan Africa.
Expected in eary March.
EU and Japan Launch First Call of New Co-funding Mechanism
The European Commission and Japan's Science and Technology Agency (JST) have launched the first call of their new co-funding mechanism, which supports Japanese participations in Horizon 2020.

Chinese organisations will now be funded to participate in Horizon 2020
The Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology has launched the first call for applications for funding, aimed at Chinese researchers participating in Horizon 2020 projects.
The Co-funding Mechanism aims at facilitating the participation of Chinese organisations in Horizon 2020 by enabling them to receive funding from the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST).
The priority areas to be supported in 2016 mainly cover agriculture (including food), biotechnologies, ICT, space, aviation, energy, health, transport, water resources, energy conservation and emission reductions, advanced manufacturing, new materials, sustainable urbanisation, and exchange of young scientists.

UK-US Co-Funding
RCUK and the US National Science Foundation (NSF) have lead agency<http://strath.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e9eb54ce2adf8d15e4903fece&id=f15e1765b9&e=ea2f712f58> agreements which can facilitate collaboration between UK and US researchers on:
* Economic and Social Research (ESRC)
* Arts and Humanities Research (AHRC)
* Biotech and Biological Science (BBSRC)
* Environmental Science, particularly Environmental Biology and Geosciences (NERC).
There are indications that a further lead agency agreement is to follow between the EPSRC and the NSF directorates for Engineering, Mathematical & Physical Sciences Computer and Information Science and Engineering.
UK- BRAZIL Co-Funding
The lead Agency Agreement between RCUK and FAPESP, the State of Säo Paulo Research Foundation, encourages collaborative research proposals. The BBSRC have a call open for collaborative research proposals in any area of science<http://strath.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e9eb54ce2adf8d15e4903fece&id=4975e09d4f&e=ea2f712f58> that is within the remit of both BBSRC and FAPESP.

India-UK collaborative industrial research and development programme
ERA-Net INNO INDIGO invites proposals for its India-UK collaborative industrial research and development programme<http://strath.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e9eb54ce2adf8d15e4903fece&id=4e4778eaf9&e=ea2f712f58> – joint call. This aims to help participants to build sustainable research partnerships and increase bilateral research and development collaboration with the goal of generating new intellectual property and developing technology prototypes or processes leading to economic growth and societal benefit. Focus areas include:
• cleantech energy;
• affordable healthcare;
• use of electronic system design and manufacturing technologies to provide solutions to particular societal challenges.
Deadline: 30 March 2016
H2020 Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE)
This action<http://strath.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e9eb54ce2adf8d15e4903fece&id=adf3c63ec8&e=ea2f712f58> is meant for organisations such as universities, research centres or companies – that propose a short term exchange to their staff. Proposals should include at least three partners, which can be universities, research institutions, or non-academic organisations. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to participate. Partners from elsewhere in the world can also join.
All research areas can be funded except those covered by the EURATOM Treaty.
NEW: Partners from China are now eligible to join and get additional co-funding from the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST).
Deadline: 28 April 2016
Trans-atlantic Platform - Digging Into Data Challenge
The T-AP Digging into Data Challenge<http://strath.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e9eb54ce2adf8d15e4903fece&id=5eb019f7c5&e=ea2f712f58> will launch in March 2016. The Challenge will support research projects that explore and apply new “big data” sources and methodologies to address questions in the social sciences and humanities.

NORFACE - Dynamics of Inequality Across the Life-course
The NORFACE (New Opportunities for Research Funding Agency Cooperation in Europe) network proposes a major research programme<http://strath.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e9eb54ce2adf8d15e4903fece&id=c2021f40a7&e=ea2f712f58> over the next four years on the topic of “Dynamics of Inequality Across the Lifecourse”.
Themes:
* Early life influences and outcomes;
* Early adult transitions into tertiary education, vocational training and economic activity;
* Labour market and family trajectories and the growth of inequality; and
* Labour market participation in later life and retirement.

South East Asia Prosperity Fund Call
The Cross-Government UK Prosperity Fund promotes the economic reform and development needed for growth in partner countries. The call for South East Asia<http://strath.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e9eb54ce2adf8d15e4903fece&id=c53c01b835&e=ea2f712f58> is now open.
Projects have to operate in key markets for the UK (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and additionally in Burma). Regional projects can include a small element of work in other South East Asia countries (Cambodia, Laos PDR, Brunei & Singapore).
