Dear All,

Can I remind you that the deadline for proposing new outputs for this year’s research audit is tomorrow, Friday 19th January. See below for details. After tomorrow the proposed outputs will be assessed for quality etc. Don’t waste your time worrying about ranking too much. We pretty much ignore that anyway.

Propose any output that you think is 3* or 4* by our normal guidelines (in a high impact factor journal, highly cited). Don’t propose an output on the off chance that it might be graded highly. This is unlikely and you will only create work for others. The only exception to this is if you do not believe that you have 3* or 4* outputs, in which case just propose your best one. Everyone should propose at least one output.

Again, the deadline is tomorrow.

Best
John

To: Dear Colleague,
As we hope you are aware the Research Audit for 2017-2018 is underway. This year all staff in your position (i.e. staff who have already proposed items in Pure for previous audits/throughout the year) have been asked to:
Examine the research outputs you have produced and if you have any outputs additional to those already proposed that you estimate to embody REF 3 or 4 star quality propose them all in Pure by Friday 19th January 2018 at the latest.
This may mean that you have more than 4 items proposed. This is perfectly acceptable and Pure will allow you to do so (you will not be able to ‘rank’ all items but this is not necessary in any case).
In addition it may be helpful to know that this year all staff who have not previously proposed an output via Pure have been asked to:
• Examine the research outputs you have produced and if you have any that you estimate to embody REF 3 or 4 star quality propose them all in Pure by Friday 19th January 2018 at the latest.

• If you do not have an output that you estimate would be considered 3 or 4 star then please propose one output from those that you have available for consideration that you feel would be evaluated as having the highest quality in REF terms.
If you have already undertaken this task then please accept our apologies for taking up your time with this reminder and thank you for your support.
If you have any questions about the Research Audit or the actions you should be taking then please contact the REF team.
Thanks
Claire
