Evidencing the impact of teaching on learning

(Tricky questions and slippery answers)
Booking link: https://bookings.strath.ac.uk/Home/Course/4121

Evaluating the impact of teaching on learning is a tricky and contested area; it is difficult to directly evidence that one impacts on the other. However, converging processes across the higher education sector including the proliferation of managerialism, increasing quality agendas and changes to student fee structures have resulted in renewed interest in the methods by which we can better articulate the impact of teaching on learning.

This workshop introduces different theoretical perspectives on impact and value in teaching and learning. It provides examples of tools that can assist academics to document their teaching practice and develop better understanding of proxies for learning. Participants will be asked to work actively to critique current evaluation processes and to consider the extent to which the literature and tools could have value for their academic practice.

If there are particular questions about evaluating teaching and learning you would like to put forward, please email Jennie beforehand at; jennie.winter at plymouth.ac.uk<mailto:jennie.winter at plymouth.ac.uk>

Dr Jennie Winter is an Asssociate Professor in Educational Development at the Pedagogic Research Institute and Observatory (PedRIO), University of Plymouth. She is a National Teaching Fellow and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Jennie is interested ina range of academic development themes and her research has been utilised by the European Commission, presented at international conferences and by invite to selected institutions.
