[Academic] Teaching links from Wednesday's DC meeting

Dear all,

At the Department Committee yesterday, there were a few points made in the chat function which may be of interest.

The messages sent from the Principal to students can be found here:

Assessments on MyPlace:

  *   you can add random numbers within MCQs
  *   on use of units - you could say, e.g.,  "give your answer in units of N (Newton) in the question".  The answer can then be purely numerical.
Alternatively, if all exam questions are one page, units could be an MCQ follow-up to previous questions.

Duration of semester 2 online exams:
All papers are to contain 2 hours' content, with a 3 hour duration.
(Add additional time manually for those students whose disability adjustments allow for extra time.)

Note that Disability and Wellbeing/Myplace team have confirmed that at the moment, it is not possible to apply additional time overrides on Myplace at Departmental/Year levels to avoid making special groups "+25% time" and "+33% time" for every single class.
They are aware of the problem but it's unlikely to be fixed for quite some time - unfortunately each class has to add their own override groups.
