Dear all,

Please see below details of the current call for EPSRC Strategic Equipment Outline bids. We have previously had good success with this scheme, and it’s now changed from fixed to rolling deadlines so the internal reviewing process has been adapted.

Thanks,

G.

EPSRC Strategic Equipment Outline call – Next internal deadline Monday 25th April 2022, 1700hrs

Dear Dear Directors of Research,

I would like to invite you to highlight this call to your colleagues for the potential submission of an outline business case for EPSRC’s Strategic Equipment Scheme.

Previously EPSRC had three fixed submission and review panel deadlines per year, which would review outline business cases for progression to invited full applications. However, their model has now moved to rolling deadlines, where they will hold review panels when a sufficient number of applications have been received. Our internal assessment process has therefore been modified to review and determine progression of proposed outline business cases to EPSRC to reflect this, as outlined below:

Process Overview

  1. Inform Jonathan Scott (research-equipment at strath.ac.uk<mailto:research-equipment at strath.ac.uk>) of your intention to apply.

  1. SECTION A - Expression of Interest (to be completed initially by all applicants) to research-equipment at strath.ac.uk<mailto:research-equipment at strath.ac.uk> in line with the following internal deadlines:

  *   Monday 21st February 2022, 1700hrs
  *   Monday 25th April 2022, 1700hrs
  *   Monday 20th June 2022, 1700hrs
  *   Monday 12th September 2022, 1700hrs
  *   Monday 14th November 2022, 1700hrs

  1. The internal panel will review the SECTION A - Expression of Interest submission and if suitable will provide dates of University panel meeting (based on demand) for Section B - Outline Business Case to be submitted.

  1. SECTION B - Outline Business Case submission (where advised).

  1. Internal panel meeting held to review EOI information and Outline Business Case (Sections A and B). EPSRC assessment criteria will be use and bids will be prioritised by their stage of development at each panel meeting. Decisions and feedback will be provided to applicants shortly thereafter.

  1. If required, re-submission of revised Section B (Outline Business Case) to internal panel with potential second panel review (by invitation).

  1. Submission of Outline Business Case to EPSRC (if agreed by internal panel).
Please note: As part of our commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), we will continue to adapt our internal process to ensure an inclusive approach to our review.

As a reminder, the scope of the Strategic Equipment Scheme is to enhance UK scientific capability and support a portfolio of high quality, cutting edge research of high priority to EPSRC. Business cases submitted by the University should show a clear fit with the University strategy and enable research that predominantly falls within EPSRC’s remit. RKES support is available for outline business case development and project management support (if developing a full bid for final review, after initial approval by EPSRC).

We recently held an information session for potential applicants and slides from this session are located here on the RKES portal<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fstrath.sharepoint.com%2Fsites%2Frkes%2FSitePages%2FEquipment.aspx&data=04%7C01%7Ccath.cheshire%40strath.ac.uk%7Cb090a601ee864e055efb08da1151c5e3%7C631e0763153347eba5cd0457bee5944e%7C0%7C0%7C637841340144207175%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=TfrqyVByteV7cH81gA7alr%2FCrebR39Mrf4EVqtkztso%3D&reserved=0> – you will also find the application form and link to EPSRC guidance here.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.

Kind regards,

Jonathan
