Subject: Research Visitors

Dear Faculty Managers,

The Guidance_on_Visiting-Honorary_Appointments.docx (live.com)<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fview.officeapps.live.com%2Fop%2Fview.aspx%3Fsrc%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fwww.strath.ac.uk%252Fmedia%252Fps%252Fhumanresources%252Fpolicies%252FGuidance_on_Visiting-Honorary_Appointments.docx%26wdOrigin%3DBROWSELINK&data=05%7C01%7Ccath.cheshire%40strath.ac.uk%7C5fc8f582678a484d18b408da96f501f9%7C631e0763153347eba5cd0457bee5944e%7C0%7C0%7C637988276547756302%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=RQUdRDVCE1W5QhDGCTP%2FqLXvyp4b5XJ77Knqx1dWwhQ%3D&reserved=0> and associated application forms on our policies page are being updated overnight to incorporate the Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) legislation Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)<https://www.gov.uk/guidance/academic-technology-approval-scheme> that was recently introduced. These new arrangements apply to certain visitors depending on the research they are conducting and their nationality. The updated documentation is attached for your information and the new application forms should be used for future applications.

You can find out if a visitor requires an ATAS certificate as part of their visa application by checking the following link: Check if you need an ATAS certificate (academic-technology-approval.service.gov.uk)<https://www.academic-technology-approval.service.gov.uk/>.

Where an ATAS certificate is required, the new form requests that a research statement and code is recorded, noting that the certificate must be approved and obtained before the visitor's visa application is submitted. If you identify a visitor that does require such a certificate, then please do not hesitate to contact your HR Team for any additional support as we transition to this process.

If you have any questions regarding the above, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Many thanks,

Janette
