Dear All,
It was agreed at the latest Teaching and Departmental meetings that we
should begin a peer review process of our teaching methods this
Semester. This will involve colleagues agreeing to observe each other's
teaching under normal circumstances.
The process is completely voluntary and has been developed within the
Department without any input or requirements from the University. The
idea is to use a relatively simple method to help us improve our own
teaching skills. See the attached Information and Form that will be used
in the peer-review process.
We would encourage you to take part and team up with a colleague soon to
start the review process as described in the attached.
Please note that you are not required to submit any forms. The minimum
required would be to inform me who has teamed up with whom. It would be
very helpful if you did submit your forms to me, though, as this will
allow me to collect comments etc to see if there are any common themes.
The collection of comments/observations would be *completely
**anonymised *before anybody else has access.
So, I would encourage you to take part in this trial. We will
undoubtedly learn lessons from it and modify the process accordingly
before we roll it out further next Academic Year.
I personally have gone through this peer-review process previously (with
feedback from the Observer) and can highly recommend it. It is amazing
how some relatively small changes to teaching style/methods, made as a
result of a review, can greatly improve one's teaching skill and student
experience.
So, if you could please start to team up with a colleague, inform me
once this has been done, and then start the review process as described.
Many thanks,
Brian.
