As the University will be capped in the number of applications which can be submitted to this prestigious fellowship scheme there is an internal selection process. Each Department can submit one candidate (two if there is a second particularly strong candidate) to be considered by their Faculty for selection. Guidance for this scheme can be found here<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ukri.org%2Fopportunity%2Ffuture-leaders-fellowships-round-8%2F&data=05%7C01%7Cr.w.martin%40strath.ac.uk%7C86c645c8a6854541f76608db167d92f0%7C631e0763153347eba5cd0457bee5944e%7C0%7C0%7C638128500953272672%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=6DfxKfLAU8vNDWaApUC5LJMaD9AKZ11%2F9XJOe%2BF%2BkfU%3D&reserved=0>.

Candidate Eligibility

The scheme aims to support early career researchers with outstanding potential to tackle ambitious and challenging research and boost their career trajectory. The definition of "early career" is open and there are no time bound criteria. Rather, applicants need to be clear why they should be considered an early career researcher: this can include those changing field/focus; those moving from teaching to research posts; those moving from clinical to academic contracts; as well as those wishing to develop and lead their own research group for the first time. This scheme is ideally suited for those who have established their independence and are now ready to transition to leadership.

Colleagues on open ended academic contracts are eligible to apply but should not yet have achieved 'leadership' in the area they are proposing to investigate. They would also be expected to relinquish the activities associated with their permanent role in order to free up their time for the Fellowship.

External candidates are encouraged to apply with Strathclyde as their host institution and should follow the same internal candidate selection process and timelines as outlined below.

Previously unsuccessful FLF applicants are able re-apply provided their proposal addresses the feedback from the FLF reviewers and the interview panel (where applicable).

Internal Selection and Review Process

Candidates are asked to submit the following to their HoD (or nominee) by 13 March 2023:

  * 3-page Fellowship Outline (attached Pro-Forma to be completed)
  * OR 2-page Case for Re-Submission (for previously unsuccessful candidates) - highlighting how close they came in the previous round, progress since initial submission, what issues were identified by the reviewers/panel and how they propose to address them
  * AND, 3-page C.V (attached CV and Outputs Template to be completed)

Each Faculty can submit up to 3 candidates to be considered by the University Selection Panel. Successful candidates will be informed by mid-April 2023 and supported to develop their application prior to the submission date of 4 July 2023.

thanks

Luke
