Dear Heads of Department

Launch of 2016/2017 Strathclyde Chancellor's Fellowship Scheme

We will shortly be launching the 2016/2017 Strathclyde Chancellor's Fellowship Scheme, which will seek to appoint up to 20 exceptional early career academics in strategically important research areas. A list of these research areas is listed at the bottom of this email.

As you will be aware, Chancellor's Fellows are normally appointed at Lecturer level. The Fellowship lasts for 5 years during which the Fellows are supported to establish their career as a research leader and achieve rapid career progression. Fellows who meet the criteria for promotion to Senior Lectureship by the end of the 5 year period are transferred to an open-ended academic appointment.

Media schedule

We are using a variety of media this year, which includes:

  *   Profellow
  *   Academicjobseu.com
  *   LinkedIn
  *   Jobs.ac.uk
  *   The Guardian
  * Various social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter.

Your assistance with the campaign

The recruitment campaign will run for 5 weeks and we will be using a variety of methods to maximise the exposure of the campaign.

In addition to HR action, we recognise that your contacts and networks in your disciplines will be critical in identifying exceptional potential candidates. As a result, I am emailing to request your support in a number of ways:

* Twitter: HR will tweet daily about the campaign and would ask that those of you who are Twitter users retweet any updates and encourage your staff to do the same from their Twitter accounts. If there is someone in your department who has specific responsibility for maintaining a departmental Twitter account, please do let me know and I will ensure that they receive regular reminders. We plan to use the hashtag #SCFS2016.

* LinkedIn: We will post regularly on LinkedIn. We intend to have a theme per week for our LinkedIn updates, which will broadly follow the five University Values (People-Oriented, Bold, Collaborative, Innovative, Ambitious) and focus on work carried out by our current Fellows or support received from the University, which aligns with the values. We would be very grateful if your department would re-post LinkedIn updates, in particular to any groups of interest within your discipline. Again, it would be most appreciated if staff in your departments could consider doing this from their own LinkedIn accounts. If someone in your department has particular responsibility for this, again please do let me know.

* Networking: Generally, as staff attend events or conferences during the weeks ahead, it would be most useful if they were able to draw the Scheme to the attention of individuals whom they meet who might be exceptional applicants. As soon as the website (containing details of the scheme and how to apply) is live, we will forward you a link, which you will then be able to forward on to any contacts.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly if you have any queries or suggestions. Thank you in advance for your support.

Best wishes

Alison
